Name:  Patty Murphy

Chapter: Monroe County AEYC

Professional Position:  School Age Director

Professional Goals:  I would like to continue my involvement in advocating the importance of Early Childhood Education. My goal is to obtain my Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education.

Educational Background: I have my Bachelors Degree in Education from East Stroudsburg State College (now East Stroudsburg University).  I have taken several undergraduate courses in Early Childhood at Northampton Community College and have taken several graduate courses in Early Childhood at Marywood University.  I have the Director’s Credentials for Keystone STARS from the PAKey.

AEYC Involvement:  I have been a member of MCAEYC since 1998. During that time, I have served as a Member At Large, Vice President, President and Chairperson and Co-chairperson for several committees including public policy, nomination, professional development, annual conference and recognition dinner.  Currently I am the affiliate representative to PennAEYC.

Family:   I live in Effort, a small village in the Pocono Mountains with my husband of 19 years, Jim.  Jim is a great supporter of my involvement in MCAEYC and PennAEYC.

Personal interests:  Jim and I enjoy spending time at the beach each year. I also enjoy reading, walking, gardening, watching old movies and following the activities of my nieces and nephews.

Why do you do this work?  I love working with the children!  Each is unique and brings something special to my life.  I enjoy working with the families and being able to build lasting relationships with them.   The relationships and friends that I have as a result of my work are special because of their care and support in improving the lives of children and their families.

Why are you an AEYC member?  Being an AEYC member enables me to help promote and advocate for the importance of Early Childhood Education.  Also, being a member has given me the opportunity to meet and work with very dedicated people in the field.

Favorite AEYC benefits:  I enjoy the publications provided by NAEYC. The most important benefit is meeting and developing relationships with people in ECE and as a result I have grown professionally and continue to grow.
