Featured Chapter - Lancaster Area AEYC - the third affiliate created in our state.
LAAEYC was officially formed on September 1965. The organization was originally developed to create networking and professional development opportunities for individuals working with young children in the Lancaster Area. LAAEYC was incorporated in July 1991 as a 501c3 corporation. In July of 1992, LAAEYC was successful in becoming the first affiliate in the nation to petition the State Board of Education, Board of Private Academic Schools to accept a resolution to adopt National Academy of Early Childhood Programs Accreditation in lieu of licensing. In 1995, LAAEYC was granted funds by the state for a training and mentoring program for teachers and directors leading to NAEYC accreditation. The successful program was known as the LAAEYC On-site Mentor Training Project.
Current info…
Current vision and mission statements can be found at www.laaeyc.org.
Current board participation=12 board members (5 executive members). The board has grown in recent years as a direct result of our “Be a Leader” campaign (2008). As the diversity of our membership continues to grow, we want this diversity to be reflected in our board as well. We are currently working to increase our visibility in all areas who work with young children, including creating partnerships with more school districts and higher education facilities.
Annual events:
--Early Childhood Conference held in the fall of each year
