Karen Ponder is a past president of the North Carolina Partnership for Children (NCPC), the non-profit that oversees and gives technical support to Smart Start, the state's early childhood funding and planning initiative. At NCPC, she also oversaw the work of Smart Start's National Technical Assistance Center (NTAC), providing advice and support to other states and communities in developing early childhood initiatives. Her expertise includes community and policy development and grassroots advocacy.
